Japan became the first team to qualify for the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany, on June 8th, 2005. On the same day they were joined by Iran, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

AFC - 2006 World Cup Qualifying

Asian Qualification for the World Cup Finals in Germany 2006.

The six winners from the preliminary round, plus the highest FIFA-ranked loser, advanced to the First Round of the qualifying competition - where 32 teams were drawn into eight groups of four teams.

The winners of each group moved on to the Final Qualifying Stage - comprising two groups of four, with the top two in each group earning automatic qualification.

The third-placed teams played each other for the right to play-off against a team from CONCACAF.

Group 1: (Iran won the group)
Iran, Qatar, Jordan and Laos.

Group 2: (Uzbekistan won the group)
Uzbekistan, Iraq, Palestine and Chinese Taipei.

Group 3: (Japan won the group)
Japan, Oman, India and Singapore.

Group 4: (Kuwait won the group)
China, Kuwait, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Group 5: (North Korea won the group)
United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Yemen and North Korea.

Group 6: (Bahrain won the group)
Bahrain, Syria, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Group 7: (South Korea won the group)
South Korea, Lebanon, Vietnam and Maldives.

Group 8: (Saudi Arabia won the group)
Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka.

Qualified for 2006 World Cup Finals:

Uzbekistan 1 - Bahrain 0 - Void.

FIFA Invalidates Uzbekistan-Bahrain Result:
FIFA has confirmed that the result of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany qualifying match between Uzbekistan and Bahrain on 3 September 2005 has been declared invalid and that the game must be replayed.
