Travel to South Korea South Korea vs Travel to Algeria Algeria in Porto Alegre.

Match Preview

The only time South Korea and Algeria have met before was a December 1985 friendly match.

South Korea beat Algeria (2:0) in Nezahualcoyotl, prior to the Mexico 1986 finals.

The Match

For these two teams there was everything to play for after Russia lost to Belgium earlier in the day.

While South Korea emerged like their normal lively selves, it was Algeria who ran up a three goal lead before half-time.

Goalscorers 0:1
Islam Slimani put the North Africans ahead in the 26th minute, after running on to Carl Medjani's ball and through two South Korean defenders; to lift the ball over the goalkeeper.

Goalscorers 0:2
Within two minutes, Rafik Halliche doubled Algeria's lead when he headed home Abdelmoumene Djabou's corner kick.

Goalscorers 0:3
Abdelmoumene Djabou turned from provider to scorer, eight minutes before the break.

Half-time: South Korea 0 - Algeria 3

Goalscorers 1:3
Heung-Min Son caught the Algerian defence napping shortly after the break, but they still had a long way to go.

A goal-line clearence and an excellent save from Ki Sung-yueng's long range drive kept Algeria in the driving seat.

Goalscorers 1:4
Then Algeria made their position more secure, just after the hour, thanks to Yacine Brahimi.

Goalscorers 2:4
Although there was still twenty minutes play, Ja-Cheol Koo scrambled goal proved to be little more than a consulation.

South Korea were not out, but they may be feeling down.
