Group B
Netherlands vs Chile in Sao Paulo.
Match Preview
In the final Group B matches, Netherlands take on Chile in Sao
Paulo while Australia play Spain in Curitiba.
Holland and Chile have never met before in international football
competition.
The Match
First game of the tournament for Bakary Gassama of Gambia; the man
with the whistle.
Holland and Chile have both qualified for the second round so this
match is all about who tops the group.
For much of the first-half it seemed both teams were content to test
their set piece strategies and save themselves for later in the game; or the next round.
Just when Chile seemed in control of the game Arjen Robben came close
to scoring for Holland, in the 40th minute, by just going for it on his own. The end
result of his determind run, rolled wide.
Half-time: Netherlands 0 - Chile 0
1:0
Substitute Leroy Fer scored a powerful header for Holland in the 79th minute.
2:0
Holland secured top spot of the group in injury time; Arjen Robben providing the assist
