Match Preview

Colombia and Côte d'Ivoire have never met before in international football competition.

This is Colombia's 5th World Cup Finals appearance and Croatia's third.

The Match

Colombia and Ivory Coast both started their 2014 campaigns with a victory.

The winner here could qualify for the knockout stage; if the later game, Japan vs Greece, ends in a draw.

Game on for South America versus West Africa, in the capital of Brazil.

Both teams started positively, yet were equally effective at closing the other down in the crucial moment.

Slowly the attacking balance started to tip in Colombia's favour, with Ivory Coast needing to be equally quick to cover the runs.

Then the enthusiasm seemed to drain out of the game around the thirty minute mark, as whistles echoed around the stadium.

Half-time: Colombia 0 - Ivory Coast 0

A draw could suit both sides but they would be better off with a win. At the start of the second-half, caution seemed the order of the day.

Yellow Cards Didier Zokora wasn't cautious enough and will miss the final group game, against Greece.

Just when Côte d'Ivoire seemed to be getting the adantage, Colombia came back to life; Juan Cuadrado's chipped shot pushed onto the bar.

Substitution Time for Didier Drogba to replace Wilfried Bony, with half an hour remaining.

Goalscorers 1:0
James Rodriguez gave Colombia the lead with a header, into the roof of the net, from a corner.

Substitution Salomon Kalou replaced Max Gradel as Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure discussed who should take the free-kick. Yaya Toure did; into the wall.

Goalscorers 2:0
The game had livened, up with Ivory Coast pushing for the equaliser, then Colombia broke forward; to extend their lead, through substitute Juan Quintero.

Goalscorers 2:1
Gervinho replied for Ivory Coast after a run down the left and a cut inside the box. David Ospina had a hand on the ball, but just helped it into the net.

After Mario Yepes received treatment, Howard Webb took advantage of the stop in play to snatch a quick sip from a Colmbian water bottle. The franctic second-half showed no signs of slowing down.

In injury time, David Ospina was quick off his line to foil Didier Drogba's chance of levelling the score.

Final Score: Colombia 2 - Ivory Coast 1

1:0 - James Rodriguez (64 mins)
2:0 - Juan Quintero (70 mins)
2:1 - Gervinho (73 mins)
